Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
I can see villian raising a holding like 99-QQ from the BB when the board comes underpairs, A raise to at least 80 on the flop is good to see how strong BB is. As played I think you can fold the river as I don't see villian playing 99-QQ this way very often.

raise flop ~90
fold turn definitely fold river, you can only beat a bluff and he's not bluffing. |

Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
I did not mean raise the flop to find out where you're at (I don't think it was implied, but I want to make sure everyone knows that raising to find out where you are is stupid). I meant raise the flop (to at least 100) for value, because you want to put money in with the best hand. And if he b3b you without a flush draw out there, then yes, I think you have to fold.

Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
no I agree with you that it gains more value if you raise the flop. when I've been raising this flop with any 2 often enough, I definitely raise the flop with AA and look to get it in.
however, if hero has a significantly tighter image and believes villain is unlikely to hold JJ-KK here, and perhaps folds a decent portion of his other overpair holdings to a flop raise, then smoothcalling flop is ok. what we are hoping for is a cleaner turn to get more money in on the turn when we smoothcall. |

Thanks for the responses everyone.
He ended up having 56 for the turned straight. Like I said before, the reason I called down was because he was so aggressive for a TAG (at the time) and I was worried about being blown off the hand if I raised the flop. Like if he b3b the flop, or bet/call, lead turn, or call/call lead river. Guess thats not the way to be thinking in these situations. Of course, letting an opp hang himself oop is appealing too. Probably should stop thinking everyone is out to outplay me and just hope the raise keeps them honest/straight forward. |

Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
I probably raise this flop because I think I'm ahead, to charge him to draw and to discourage others from doing this the majority of time when I whiff and want to take it down with cbet.
As far as the hand, I think the key is the turn, where his bet size looks much more he hit than he is pricing himself in to continue to draw. That, combined with turn card which came, makes this a fold, imo. |
