Changing styles from NL cash to CL tourney
Played in a home game last night. NL, blinds .25, .50, buy-in was $20. I killed, left with $87. BUT, when I play in a NL home tourney (with other friends) I have yet to win. The tourney structure is blinds start 25-50, start with 5000 in chips (blinds basically double every 20 minutes). Two tables of 5 or 6 players each, final 3 players from each table make it to a final table of 6 players. (Would this be more similar to STT, MTT, or something like 6Max?) Anyway, I can make it to the final table in this game but then don't make it all the way. I think I need to loosen up when the blinds get bigger relative to the stacks. Why can I win the first game but not the second (I suspect it's related to me playing better cards and the blinds not increasing). Any thoughts or point me in a good direction for help (book or STT forum of course)? Thanks.

Re: Changing styles from NL cash to CL tourney
STTs require very specific skills...
I kind of don't know where to start answering your questions.. the best general advice that I can give you is to play tight early...when the blinds get up to the point that the BB is more than 10% of you stack...you can get more aggressive (selectively that is)... err you could read the faq at the top of the page... and there are a lot of posts in HERE that may be of some help good luck |

Re: Changing styles from NL cash to CL tourney
Good help, Prodigy. My question is too broad, obviously. A big problem I have is switching gears at the right time, playing tight early and being able to loosen up later on. Your post was a big help. Thanks.
