odds to make a hand = 4*(#of outs)
I just found this on a poker website and wondered if it had any truth to it:
As a general rule of thumb, after you find the number of outs you have, multiply by 4 and you will get a close estimate to the percentage of hitting that hand from the Flop to the river, or multiply by 2 to get a percentage estimate from the Turn instead. The reason this works (as a general rule of thumb) is that after the flop and turn there are 47 and 46 unseen cards.
i.e. ~50. i.e. approx half of 100. if we have 3 outs then converting 3/47 to a loose percent we can just double it to 6/94 near enough to 6/100 = 6%. (to see only the turn) for both river and turn, it is 3/47 + 3/46. doubled is 6/100 + 6/100 = 12/100 = 12% |
