my suggestion is to sit down with the entire $300 at a table. make your screen name, newbie or fish or something. then, first hand, push all-in. instant doubleup.
seriously, play NL if that's what you want to play. i agree that LHE is a way to ensure your money lasts longer. the easiest way to play NL would be to play SNGs or MTTs. |

MTT's in my opinion are too high-variance for a beginner's staple game; you could play for months without knowing if you're a winning player or not. (Admittedly, I keep saying to play the game you want to master. If you want to master MTTs then I suppose you should can just start out playing them. But be prepared for lots of variance.) |

Where do you find these $1 SnGs? I've never seen any.

Full Tilt, Absolute, and Pacific all have them as well, I'm pretty sure. Pac's may still be 45 people or something.
Some sites will charge you something outrageous like 25% vigorish for a $1 + 0.25 S&G, so you want to track how well you do gross and then subtract out a more reasonable vig to tell whether you're good enough to move up. If you can tread water at 25% vigorish, you're killing the $1 level and need to find some external source of bankroll so you can move higher. |

Lots of answers, thank you all for taking the time to answer. Someone gave me the suggestion of depositing $500 to party to take advantage of a bonus there. This is what I did and I'm starting out with Limit poker but I'm probably going to try No limit later.
I'm playing with $0,5 and $1 blinds by the way, it's not going great but I'm only down five bucks so far |

Unless you're independently wealthy or in a situation of very good gainful employment, start out in micros, it will hurt less.
