Re: Chess Poll
I want to change my answer to King's fury. That's where you develop a few middle pawns/knights/bishop, but then rush out the King 2 spots. It'll totally psyche him out.
what have you got to lose? (besides respect) |

Re: Chess Poll
[ QUOTE ]
Whether you play chess or not, feel free to vote. I am playing an international master this weekend and am white (my rating is about 2100 FIDE, so I am obviously a substantial underdog). He plays the classical sicilian and the semislav. I will either play the velimirovic or the Botvinik antimeran. I am generally a 1.e4 player, but play both the sicilian and the semislav extensively as black, so I am comfortable in both openings. Help me choose which: [/ QUOTE ] I say Velimirovic, as Leverett's book seems to indicate it goes to a draw. Force the man to take risk to beat you, and be solid. |

Re: Chess Poll
Play Velimirovic with him. He has Dragon Sicilian games in the past, maybe he will play a Dragon with you instead. (Make sure you know the draw lines--back in the day, it used to be Sapi and Schneider's book that you turned to...I don't know if this is still the case.)
What do you play as black? As an alternative play, you might consider this the time to screw around a little bit. Do you know the Dutch Defense? If so, maybe you can start with 1.f4. Now 1...d4 allows you to transpose into a Dutch with move in hand that can sometimes be useful. If he tries 1...e5, now you transpose into a King's Gambit. Joe Gallagher and Andy Soltis has some reasonable King's Gambit material (10-15 years ago). I don't know whether or not KG has gotten any more popular recently. (I do know that Judit Polgar was messing around with it a little.) This will give you the tactical game that you wanted and doesn't sound like it will be well-trodden ground for him. I was just messing around with Bird's before I quit. I had recently switched from Benoni to Dutch, and I was looking to get more King's Gambit games with the white pieces. There was very little 1.e4 e5 for me (all Sicilian, all the time, it seemed), but people were willing to play From's (and then uncomfortable after the transposition to the KG). |

Re: Chess Poll
[ QUOTE ]
I don't have any games with him playing a Sicilian with d6, Nc6 and Nf6, so I don't think you'll get a Velimirovic. He seems to go for a dragon, accelerated dragon or some Nc6/Qc7 sideline. [/ QUOTE ] I see games with ...d6 ...Nc6, Bc4 Qb6. He does seem to play a lot of different Sicilian lines though. Didn't look through his games with d4 but if he plays a lot of different systems, he is very likely to play something unusual for him when he faces you. At least after 1. e4 you will be familiar with most of the lines as a regular e4 player. |

Re: Chess Poll
Do not outsmart yourself, if you are an e4 stick to it and the sozin
What are you going to do if you prepare for the botvinnik and he then plays the dutch or nimzo ?? |

Re: Chess Poll
Push all in preflop. International masters hate this type of play because it takes most of their edge away.

Whether you play chess or not, feel free to vote. I am a boshielocki duhferbuger and am orange (my pillkay rating is about 6x20EE2 SATA II 3GB/s, so I am obviously really substantially differentiated). He plays the baroque hyungdaddy and the hooflucksre. I will either buy a jungle gym for my dogs or move the house doodzilal velimirovic or communist manifesto read top gun. I am generally admitted to a public college but play both the italian currencies were saved by the euro and the bungmaster extensively as green, so I am comfortable with my sexuality and my cats. Help me bang some chicks from MySpace [/ QUOTE ] This has made my day. LMAO |
