Default how do you play your draws?

how do you play your open-enders and flushdraws?
do you check them or do you bet them?
if you bet, them how much do you bet?
would it be incorrect to bet more than you otherwice are justifyed to call regarding the pot odds?
or do you compleatly disregard them cus of the implied odds you get? I see people all the time betting their openended straight draws with half pot size bets, and even with flushdraws and I often wonder if this can be profitable in the long run, the reason I'm asking is I am converting from limit hold'em and I need to set this straight,
