an idea for restaurant tipping
Let's say I go to a nice restaurant and enjoy a good meal with good service.
When the bill arrives, I'll leave a standard 15 - 20% tip, but along with a note which says "Please divide this gratuity evenly among the kitchen staff" I don't see why there aren't any restaurants who swap the standard wage of the servers with that of the cooks, and distribute the tips to the cooks instead. After all, if the purpose of my tip is to give an incentive to a worker to do an extra good job, I'd rather that go towards the person cooking the food on my plate rather than the person carrying it to me. What do you think? Would I get lambasted at a restaurant for doing this? |
