How long does it take to beat a new level?

I feel like I'm stuck. How long does it take to move up? I play SNGs. I started with the $2 then moved up to the $5, where I just got stuck.

In terms of time, or number of games/hands, how long did it take you to feel like you were consistently beating a level when you moved up?

I'm new to real money (5 weeks) but I played free poker for a pretty long time. I'm just getting frustrated because I feel like I should be able to win more $5 SNGs.
