Default 2/4 how to play Aj /Aq in late position

Hi
Hope you can help to resolve debate between me and my mate.

He believes routinely raising and re-raising on aq/aj pre-flop(sometimes v 2 opponents) is an advanced play. He then makes continuation bet on flop.
He is not reckless however and will be making this play v relatively agrressive opponents

My view ..This is too aggressive on not a strong enough hand. If you hit on flop are you happy? Too easy to get stacked v better hands where weaker hands get away from you.
I like to raise in un-raised pot or in blinds v button raise but other than that i prefer to see flop pretty cheaply

Who's right?

Thanks for any advice
