look, i am being pretty harsh, it's very tough on poor single mothers out there (especially women of color). raising a kid on your own is certainly tougher than about anything i've done in my life. so, good for you that you have a stable financial outlook and have the means to look out for your daughter.
i disagree with some of your spending and i think she would be better off in the long run learning about the value of investing, saving, and working hard, rather than spending a lot of money on highly depreciable consumer goods and stuff for herself that she really doesn't need. i am not saying this out of some puritanical notion that kids have it too easy, but because i have worked with many teenagers from poor backgrounds, broken homes or other adverse circumstances, and the first thing that happened to a lot of them when they got out on their own was they started living well beyond their means due to unreasonable expectations.
