All right I'll think about this some more.
Here's something interesting to add and that's the reason why I posted the hand (I won't say what I did or what the results were because that's bad for the discussion):

My first thinking when I played the hand was actually very simple "I'll shove because he's bluffing here a lot" and we have the best hand.
I think that's what a lot of players might think, I certainly catch myself thinking like this a lot. Only after thinking about this for a second more did I think about his complete range and how to maximize against it.
So the biggest lesson learned was actually "play and maximise vs villains range"
