A little secret I've learned in my life is this. When the police are called to a situation like this, one party is drunk, the other party is sober, unless the sober's story breaks the the laws of physics, The sober is the one who is believed. I just say "Hell no! I didn't run him off the road, the dumbass ran into the ditch! I'm just driving along and see him go off into the ditch, and I pull over to help!!" and cop goes "Thats about what I figured. Have a nice night Sir" then goes and cuffs the drunk and tows his car.
