Default The raise to buy equity( theory)

Its been a while since I`ve played limit, and i am certainly new to 6max.
Starting off again I was a little bit biased as in what to expect with all the talk of thougher competition etc etc-sofar my impression is that there is alot of money at the tables in slippery hands.

Which brings me to the question, when I was playing full ring some 2 years ago I often would raise a bettor if I had a read that it would be interpretated as strong and/or I could fold out hands that had a fair share of equity in the hand, even if I was possibly currently behind. ( multiway action pf and rel big pot)
Question is: in low limit 6 max as of today you will often find ppl hanging in pots where their equity is so low you`d rather have them in then fold them out? Hence the play isnt usefull until higher limits?
