I posted this question in the electronics thread over in El Diablo's forum, but I'm posting it here too since too many smart people on this forum don't go over there:

I am looking into getting my first big screen TV and have pretty much settled on a Sharp 46" LCD (LC46D62U at a nice 1080p with 1920x1080 resolution).

My next problem is trying to figure out what to put it on. We currently rent so a wall-mount is really not practical. The other important consideration is that we have a 17-month old running loose in the house.

Anyone know of a reasonably priced piece of furniture that will hold a 46" TV and keep the components safe from the grasping hands of a toddler?

A 46" LCD doesn't weigh much at all...pretty much any stand made for any television will do for an LCD. Plasmas weigh a ton, however. I have a Samsung 52" LCD and I could almost hang it on the wall with no help (I thought better of it though). The stand that comes with it should also have some sort of mount/cable that allows you to secure it to whatever you are sitting it on, but I'd be more worried about him(her?) banging on the display and scratching it or something than I would be of it getting knocked over.

btw, a BlueRay or HD-DVD is pretty much the only medium that outputs in 1080p, and it does look ridiculously awesome on mine. They're getting cheap now too. Samsung 3rd generation BlueRays are ~$450.
