Going to the Bronx = imminent danger?
Five of my buddies and I (Toronto residents and Blue Jay fans all) are heading down to the Bronx to catch the Jays' three-game series on Sept. 21-23. The first day I'll wear my Jays hat, but otherwise take it all in and keep a lowish profile.
On at least one of the other two days, though, I'm considering throwing on my awesome 2004 BoSox ALCS Champions t-shirt, and putting on my BoSox hat, recently acquired, and going as a Red Sox fan. I'd try not to be fractious, but I'd be happy to discuss Jeter's overrated D or Theo Epstein's brilliance with any passionate locals. Is this a terrible idea? Am I going to get my ass kicked, or at least covered in watery, American beer? Or will it all just be good-natured grousing and baseball rivalry one-upmanship? I'm sure Yankee fans are decent (if spoilt) people, and perhaps I'm worrying too much, but I did make it to a Leafs-Penguins playoff game in Pittsburgh a few years back, and I still don't know how we got back over state lines without a police escort. My Sundin jersey has never been the same. |
