Why my 12 months in Iraq were NOT wasted.

I don't really follow this logic. If I'm allowed to quit when my employer directs me to do something I don't like, does that mean we might as well not have companies? And when I say "don't like", I mean something that's not worth the compensation they're giving me.

Unfortunately, that's not the way our military works. If you enlist for 4 years, you are in for 4 years and required to fullfill your duties.

If those soldiers who protested the war, were allowed to be discharged early, without penalty, we'd have major problems.

Bush is already having problems with many military members not re-enlisting, and, he will not be able to continue his "surge" in Iraq beyond March08, without the draft, or extending the tour of duty in Iraq longer than 15 months. The generals have already stated that 15 months is the max, and should be no more than 12 months.

How does it work in Canada?
