Default Store-bought table

Not having the skills or tools necessary to build my own poker table, I broke down and bought a 7' table from the local sportings good store. I have a couple of questions I'm hoping this group can answer

1. The felt is a little slow. It's not easy to slide cards from one end to the other when dealing. Someone suggested that ScotchGuard might be a solution. Not only would it protect the felt from spills, it would make the felt slippier. Has anyone tried this sucessfully or unsuccessfully?

2. Since the table doesn't fold, it's naturally weaker in the middle. Not so much worried about the center of the table, but would like to add some support to the edge of the table (under the rail) so that guys can lean on the rail without worrying about the table bending. Assuming I can attach something to the underside of the table for added support, I'm wondering if you can suggest the appropriate material.

Thanks

Maura
