Default Check/call river examples

Can someone give me some examples where a check/call on the river is the best move? Why (and when) do you do that? Is it because it saves you money when you are behind (otherwise your "valuebet" will be raised and then you are in trouble) and wins money when you are ahead (villain will fold on your valuebet), because it induces a bluff ?
