Default Re: Soccer Player Ethnicities

The term Hispanic is a cultural term referring to Spanish speaking people. Brazilians, as Portuguese speaking people, are clearly not Hispanic, which isn't a race anyways.

"LATIN" happy? punk

There are lots of people from Latin America that are of European descent, like pretty much all of Argentina. Deco was born in Brazil, but it's very likely that his parents/ grandparents/ whatever were from Portugal, and Portuguese people are usually classified as white.

But then again most Portuguese people, like many Southern Europeans, are pretty dark because of the Moorish influence on Southern Europe.

also, Zidane is a berber, right? berbers are usually pretty light-skinned. Their link to brown-skinned people like Arabs are based more on language and religion than they are on genetics.

I think this thread highlights the ridiculousness of classifying people into a few narrow ethnic categories. Just my $0.02
