Beat: Driving friend to DMV.. pay for gas?

So I have to drive my friend to the DMV because his liscence plates are expired and his car got towed away.

The only problem is that he wants me to pick him up in 5 hours at 8AM and I usually don't wake up till well past noon. We're both 21 now and he was one of my best friends in high school and we still hang out occasionally when we're back home from college.

He is insisting on paying for gas, but even though I don't own a car and I'm driving my dads, should I take his money? FWIW the round trip will take about an hour of driving for me (pick him up, DMV, drop him off, go home).
