Default Health clubs and parking (low content)

Has anyone else noticed that people seem to make an illogical effort to find close parking at health clubs? At my club, it is common to see people waiting for a car to pull out so that they can get a spot close to the entrance. Personally, I just drive out to the far end of the lot. My theory is that I am there to work out and will be on a treadmill within 10-15 minutes anyway, so why try to park close by?

It just seems very illogical to me. I can understand trying to get a spot right next to the door of the doughnut shop, but doing this at a health club is very inconsistent IMHO. FWIW, this club is in a very up-scale location and crime is not a major concern.
