To be fair the judge was acting outside the lines of his authority. Neither of the two parties in question make the laws. The prosecutor should never be able to cherry pick the laws he wants to enforce, and judges should not be able to let offenders go free because they don't agree with the law.

If the people actually cared the jury should have nullified.
