"i raise to 4( my standard raise)"

please don't do this.

What's the explanation?

There are definitely cases where raising to $4 is optimal.

There might be situations where raising to $4 is optimal, I don't know, but having it as your standard raise is not good I think. You're in position and want to build a big pot. You're just missing too much value raising to 4.

oh and what are the situations where it's optimal in cash games? sure you aren't thinking of SNGs where if effectives stacks are a certain ammount you can min raise to decrease his resteal value?

I don't think you realize this is .5/1, not 1/2. His raise 4x bb, not a min raise. After playing with an opponent for awhile I love to alter my raises. If they are playing too loose and flat-calling oop, I'll work my standard raise up to 4x bb, and if they are playing too tight, never flat-calling, but reraise when they do play, I'll work my standard raise down to 2.5x bb. Obviously if they catch on, you have to make further adjustments to stay ahead of them. But at these levels, it's rare to find someone smart enough to adjust.
