Default Free Rolls in General

I played my first free roll at the local B & M. I was excited because I just went on summer and hitting a free roll everyday was my plan. That is until I went to one. There are two rooms in my town and both have the same kind of free roll. 10 chips with 10 minute blinds doubling everytime. What a crap shoot! Every hand somone was going all in with three or four callers. Then, of course, one guy won big and the others rebought. Where's the skill in any of that? Is that typical of freerolls at B & Ms?
