and there's one regular at the lounge I nicknamed (only among my friends) "the expert". No matter what topic of conversation you bring up, he is an expert at it. Military, guns, golf, poker, baseball, football, cigars, politics, electronics... he's the "expert". In most cases it's obvious he has no idea what he is talking about.
So yesterday I am making a comment to my friend about my reservations at The Borgata. Immediately The Expert pipes up... Expert: See... The Borgata is the place I won't stay at in AC. Me (already sensing the answer): Why not? Expert: The games there are too weak. Me: Huh? Expert: There are too many bad players there. It's not profitable to play there. Me (holding back a huge grin... my friends are already laughing): Don't you want to play at the soft tables? Expert: No, you see there are three different kinds of players who play poker. There's the guys who have no idea what they are doing. Those are the ones I hate playing against. You just can't read them. Then there's the guys who watch the WSOP on TV and think they are hot stuff and come to the table. You can make a little money off of them. But the most profitable guys are the ones who read all the books and stuff and play that way. They are so easy to read and easily the most profitable player at the table. You can spot them right away in their cheap suits and 12-dollar shoes. At this point I am grinning ear-to-ear and my friends expect me to say something. I simply say: "Thanks for the advice." |
