basic ? regarding river action (calling min raises/min check raise)
I play low stakes 25NL. I am a “winning player” but I am a huge station on the river.
However, one of my hugest leaks is paying off the min raise or min check raise on the river. Often, on paired boards, with little aggression/action, I will bet my made flushes/straights, especially in position and last to act. Invariably, I get min raised, or min check raised. I know I’m very likely beat, and any larger raise I could typically make a good lay down, but at this level, villains typically aren’t sophisticated enough to place me on how strong my hands are (nut flush, nut straight, etc.) How many people can’t resist calling the min raise/min check raise just to see what the opponent has? Could it possibly be never wrong to call min raises on the river (of course this is given that your value bet isn’t ridiculously size.)? Let’s say on the river it is 16bb I value bet my straight/flush 12bb I get min raised or min check raised to 24bb So it is 12bb for me to call… So I’m getting 52:12. I know I’m not good 4.5x-1x, but the odds are really hard to beat. Does anybody really fold here? |
