Default 2/4 B&M - min suited connecters to raise from BB with lottsa players

2/4 B&M, 10 players, loose and passive

The other day I'm in BB with 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]; there are 7 callers plus the SB completes. I raise. Bad?

What's the minimum no-gap and one-gap suited connecters that we should be raising from the BB with lottsa players in the pot? Should we simply check in most cases or perhaps only raise suited connecters > Ten?

My thoughts were I'd be the one chasing so might as well make a big pot that gives me the odds to do so, plus it's an easy hand to get away from if I miss the flop, plus if I show it down it'll widen my preflop raising range for those who are paying attention making it more difficult to put me on a hand.
