This has actually come up several times for me - I think the right answer is always "yes" but I'm curious.
Approximate situation: I'm in late position and have AA. $10 raise from UTG and 2 callers before me - $33 in pot ($10+$10+$10+blinds.) I make it $60 to try and narrow the field and it gets folded back around to last guy still in hand and he asks: "If I call, will you check it down?" At the time this is asked there is $93 in the pot and opponent looking at having to call another $50 but I know I'm at worst tied and most likely I'm ~80% to win here. If I answer "no" he may or may not fold - estimate 80% chance of opponent folding on "no" and 20% of him calling knowing I don't want to check to the river. Goofy question? Other thoughts? Is the best answer always "yes" given the pot size/bet sizes? I know a smaller raise by me can throw things out of whack here - but then I probably shouldn't have done that right? Larger raise by me also shifts things more towards just having it folded back around to me. |
