I think the Steel Reserve I drank last night must have upped my estrogen levels for the day or something. I was just listening to Kathy's Song by Paul Simon and was reminded how much I like it, and it really gets me. Looking at the lyrics, it's a little obsessive/depressive, but there are so many lines I like, and the melody is fantastic:
[ QUOTE ] I hear the drizzle of the rain Like a memory it falls Soft and warm continuing Tapping on my roof and walls. And from the shelter of my mind Through the window of my eyes I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets To England where my heart lies. My mind's distracted and diffused My thoughts are many miles away They lie with you when you're asleep And kiss you when you start your day. And a song I was writing is left undone I don't know why I spend my time Writing songs I can't believe With words that tear and strain to rhyme. And so you see I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you. And as I watch the drops of rain Weave their weary paths and die I know that I am like the rain There but for the grace of you go I. [/ QUOTE ] I also really, really dig on I'll Be Your Mirror by The Velvet Underground. Again, a little dark, but considerably more upbeat than the previous one, and nothing says love like "German chanteuse": [ QUOTE ] I'll be your mirror Reflect what you are, in case you don't know I'll be the wind, the rain and the sunset The light on your door to show that you're home When you think the night has seen your mind That inside you're twisted and unkind Let me stand to show that you are blind Please put down your hands 'Cause I see you I find it hard to believe you don't know The beauty you are But if you don't let me be your eyes A hand in your darkness, so you won't be afraid When you think the night has seen your mind That inside you're twisted and unkind Let me stand to show that you are blind Please put down your hands 'Cause I see you I'll be your mirror (reflect what you are) [/ QUOTE ] For a final, more upbeat pick, Something by the Beatles is very, very solid. Not going to post lyrics because this post will already be quite long. What do you favor, OOT? |
