Default Dems try to bring the troops home

I've been hearing about how the Democratic leadership has gotten behind an outline of binding legislation to start bringing troops home. Under the plan proposed by Speaker Pelosi, all troops would withdraw from Iraq by Sept. 2008. (right before the election, hehe) The plan also requires an earlier withdrawl if benchmarks are not met.

This looks like the opening skirmish in the battle over Iraq. Bush has of course vowed to veto the legislation, but the Dems are planning to attach their provisions to the "emergency" war funding bills that in the past have breezed through Congress. I don't know what will happen if Bush vetos a funding bill and the Dems refuse to pass a clean bill. If anyone has any insight into what might happen without the appropriations or a few more details on the Democratic plan, I'd appreciate it.
