Both opponents called down the 3-bet and Hero's hand is good.
SB had AJo with the ace of spades. BB had A9s.

So in this hand Hero made up 22 small bets postflop. Very nice.
Now consider if an ace does not fall on the river-the amount made up is likely 12-14 small bets.
