If he rolled a die then it is fair. Maybe a little dumb, but everyone had an equal shot at the good roll, and it's not a life-destroying circumstance, so whatever. If he just closed his eyes and pick one I think it's unfair, not because of randomness but because random and arbitrary are not the same thing. If he did it by say who was taller then he is discriminating on an irrelevant factor so that's unfair IMO. And I know someone is going to come in and say genes are random so why is that different from the dice? The main difference is that a short person will be short all his life while I know of no one that always loses die rolls. |
