there's no wagering until it is down to the top 24. however, since it starts with 24 people in a single winner 100-pay contract, there is no contestant that will open at a price above 18 or so. that leaves lots of room for profit. if you can single in on just a few contestants very early, you can work your way into covering a few strong contestants for much less than $100.

if you are lucky, you will pick someone that opens @ 8, languishes, then becomes the heir apparent at the very end.
