Default Is it ever alright to hit a female?

I was talking to a guy the other day and his little 6th grade boy was beat up by one of his female classmates. I know haha right? That is what everyone else is doing in the school apparently. Long story short, she thought he was making fun of him (it was the kid next to him that he barely knows) and she walked up to him and close-fist punched him in the face, then dragged him to the ground by his hair. Then she got on top of him and started slapping. My buddy said they are the same size, and his kid threw her off of him and she hit a chair. She wasn't injured and he wasn't really injured either, his face was just red...she is just a 6th grader and not really strong enough to truly injure someone.

They both received "in-school suspension."

We were talking about this b/c he was having a hard time knowing what to say to his kid. Hitting a female is obviously wrong no matter what but it seems that a lot of the time the male is going to get in trouble no matter what. He didn't want to tell his kid to just take a beating, that isn't teaching the kid to stand up for himself. Obviously getting the female off of him w/o hitting her didn't work, he was suspended anyway--I said that this was still the best choice in this particular situation.

Then he said, "what if the female was twice the size of my kid and by chance he got her off him and she kept coming back and swinging at him, is it ever ok to hit a girl to defend yourself"?

So is it ever alright to hit a female? Give an example if you think so and if you don't think so tell your reasons why.
