Check Cashing Buisness

I pay my rent with money orders...and every time I go I am in line for 15 minutes. And there are two right across the street from one another....

Granted it is an urban area, but they charge like 15-17 percent for advancement of 14-30 days.

Anyone have any knowledge of this buisness? The long lines, the outrageous fees, and the fact they are like downtown starbucks makes me curious on how they work.
