What is the best way to set up a new acct on Party to get RB?

I have an acct currently but lost rb during the US debacle. Now I need to re-open a new acct in order to get rb. Is it better to:

1) just open another acct while keeping my old one, wait for Party to call me about having 2 acct and then tell them to close the old one

OR

2) close the old one first and re-open new one.

I am hoping that if I keep the old one and wait for Party to call me, I can tell them that I am the same guy and hopefully they will keep my Gold VIP status on my new acct. ANyone ever been able to do this?
