I just want to remark that I'm impressed that Kdawg can make such lists. I actually started to write my own list of top or essential albums, but gave up when it became immediately apparent that I could not begin to produce a list short enough to be useful.

Indeed, I could add 5-6 albums of most of the artists he listed, all of which I consider to be of similar quality. Some of those guys simply put out a ton of incredibly consistent, high-quality material. For example, the albums released by Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Jackie McLean and Dextor Gordon in the 1960s are almost all excellent.
