Re: ***Official Buffalo Sabres 2006-07 Thread***
OK, I'm beginning to have not-overly-pleasant flashbacks watching the Sabres power play recently. I grew up in Elmira, New York, while Brian McCutcheon (the current Sabres PP coach) was head coach at D-III Elmira College. I attended Cornell University while Brian McCutcheon was head coach there. Those two teams were good, competitive teams that could never take the final step to championship status partly because they had power play units that didn't perform quite up to standard because they got too cute. They'd pass the puck around for the entire 2 minutes looking for the one -perfect- shot (which is not always there) rather than take a number of -good- shots, which are almost always available. Sound familiar, Sabres fans? I suffered through it in the 1980s while watching EC, I suffered through it from 1990-94 while watching Cornell, and it's the #1 problem with the Sabres power play this year. Only the extreme skill of the players on the power play even makes it an average unit....the -system- frankly sucks. I know. I've had years of experience watching it.
