Default Challenged to semi-10k fight yo/HU for rolls in real life, line?

Cliff's Notes: Guy won't play me HU 20/40 unless I have $10k on me. What do I do when my manhood is put into question by someone who clearly has more money than me, and is thus a better person by default, no matter how much of a massive jerkoff he is?

Today's my first day of winter break and there were guys cleaning the carpet at my house, so it seemed like a good idea for a nice relaxing splash in the old kiddie pool of live 8/16. After a couple painstaking hours of shortstacking 1/3 NL I get a seat at the 8/16 that took forever to start.

The final player to make a full table comes from the pit, has multiple $500 chips in hand (at a real casino this isn't a big deal, at this casino it means he's an ultra balla) and proceeds to buy in for $800 and asks why there isn't a 20/40 and if one will likely start. Naturally I'd much rather play 20/40 than 8/16, especially HU. I decide to wait a bit and make sure that all the money he's been tossing around isn't a clever ruse, and he really is quite awful.

After he plays some offsuit 6 gappers from UTG or in late position for 3 bets I decide it's time to spring the question of "HU" as soon as the situation comes up. About 30-45 mins after his arrival he asks dealer again "where's 20/40" and she tells him it won't go today. So I pipe in with my most polite query of "hey you, hey 20/40 guy in 2 seat wanna play HU?" Seemed like a perfect fit. He wants to play 20/40 and he likes to play every single hand, I want to play 20/40 and I like money, it was as if we were made for each other. However, it was not to be, because he immediately asks "do you have ten thousand on you?" I reply with something like "no, I don't know why I'd need it for 20/40" to which he retorts "against me you will". Okay that's a bit unusual. Other than him I'm pretty sure that I had more money in my wallet to play poker with than anyone else in the poker room, I'm not too clear why I need to be 250 bets behind to have the honor of playing some douche bag HU. I suppose I could have driven home and grabbed like 7k more, but I would rather just stay home and play online for the same amount/more per hour with less variance in my normal games than to play HU with him, especially since I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of "winning" our mental bout, not to mention I have no [censored] clue why I'd go through all this trouble to get 10k together to play a 20 game. I'm guessing he thinks I'm just some annoying internet kid with only like $400 or however much I have in front of me, so I suppose it's understandable to not want to leave the game to play someone with $400, but I'm not going to say "I have $X" because I'm pretty sure he'd say no to be a dick and I'd rather not say how many dollars I have on me when I'm at the casino.

So BBV I ask you, what should my line in this situation have been? Be a bigger douche than him while he's at the table hoping he'll play? Wait for him to leave and kill him in the parking lot? Keep asking him for HU because the 3k I have in my wallet is very likely going to be plenty? Spit in his food if he orders some? Cave in like a coward and get money from home? Put a voodoo curse on him?
