Default top set v flush draw: thoughts?

I had read someone advise holding off on going to war with a set against a flush draw until the turn was a blank, and last night I think I finally had my epiphany as to why;

Flop was 36T, 2 spades, giving me a set of tens.

UTG pots, which felt a lot like 2 pair/bottom set/steal attempt, someone in middle position calls (fairly obvious flush draw), and I pot, putting both players all in if they call, my logic being that Im clearly the best hand ATM and want to get mr flush draw to commit as many chips to the pot as possible with something like 20% odds to hit his flush without the board pairing.

UTG folds (fast), flush draw called, showing Ax spades + etc.

Turn was a blank, river gave him his third spade.

In retrospect, I feel I should have min re-raised the flop, then pushed on the turn. This would have put more money in the pot but also offered totally unacceptable pot odds to call my push on the turn.

Thoughts?
