I'm in Tucson for a conference, but I flew into Phoenix, so I decided to kill some time and check out Casino Arizona.
Is there some rule in Arizona that all casinos must look like glorified big top tents? Every table in the room was filled, but my wait for $3-$6 or $4-$8 was only about 15 minutes. I ended up at $3-$6, so I bought in for $100 and watched a few hands to let the button pass. I liked what I saw: One guy called a bet on J-3-2 flop in a four-way raised pot preflop with Q6. Turn Q, River Q gave him trips to beat AA. Sadly, I didn't capitalize. In fact, it was my worst session ever as I burned through my buy in within 90 minutes. I lost $22 with QQ and $16 to AK. Nickle and dimed away everything else. It was shameful, really, and not just because the play was so bad... I liked the room. Awesome TV set up and the dealers I saw mvoed the game nicely. I was sad I never got to tip them. The rake is ridiculous, however... $5 in a $30 pot is awful. I'll definitely only play $4-$8 there if I go back. I'll probably try the Harrah's joint Southwest of Phoenix on my way back up there on Thursday. |
