Implied odds for a small PP?
With your average fishy players that populate the SSNL tables what implied odds do you generally need to have before calling a raise with a small to medium pocket pair?
The odds of hitting a set are roughly 10%, so roughly, the effective stack size needs to be at least 10 times the bet. But is this enough? You will not get your opponent all in every time you hit a set, and sometimes you will lose money taking a shot at the pot when you miss. And, of course, if you do manage to get them all in there's a good chance you're up against a hand that has outs to beat you, if you aren't beat already. So as a rule of thumb, what do experienced players percieve as acceptable implied odds in terms of stack sizes for playing the small pockets? It seems to me the minimum effective stack size needs to be somewhat larger than 10x the bet. |
