Free template usage?

I have just got my website started and downloaded some free templates I found on another site. There weren't much details on the site but basically I was wondering if it is ok for me to use and modify these free templates anyway I like? I am also concerned about using them on a website that makes money and if this could potentially cause any problems. Thanks in advance guys!
