A homage to Fimbulwinters Legendary Post Part 2
This has been sitting on my laptop semi-done for quite some time, I forgot all about it but since I'm breaking into NL100 I thought I'll finish putting it together as it might help players in a similar situation. This compilation "puts the meat on the bones" so to speak by listing related links on 2+2 of this post from fimbulwinter when asked by a poster when to move up stakes. I should make clear I use this as a guide to areas of my game to improve and check are half decent before considering a change in stakes. Confidence in your ability and a winning track record are most important and are addressed in BalugaWhale's c/t: "Making big monies with the Whale "post. Part1 Moving from NL25 -> NL50 is here [ QUOTE ] First off you should never view it as a quantum leap kinda thing. just take little shots when you feel comfortable, have the money and are good enough. here's a hand waving yardstick: try 100NL when: - you're confident playing draws - you can spot good semibluff opportunities - you can lay down AA/KK unimproved - you're attacking the blinds in easy steal situations - you have 1200+ Fim [/ QUOTE ] 1. You're confident playing draws Suited Connectors, Implied Odds, and You (Theory/Math) Fim's 25NL Adventure/Pilgrimage Calculating EV Part II: Making an All-In Raise When we're a favourite over AA "No Limit hold'em Theory and Practice"(NLHTAP) - Playing strong draws on the flop p.163 "Harrington on Holdem" (HOH Volume 1) Part4: Pot odds and hand analysis Well dwellers have also been asked about draws, the following contain draw questions: (Open link then search page for "draw" in your browser) A summary of The Well: El Diablo 4_2_it in the Well The Well: EMcWilliams The Well: yvesaint Mosuavea in The Well – poker content Jam in the well The Well: goofyballer (Thanks to Dory and linuxrocks for the well summaries) 2. You can spot good semibluff opportunities Some of the previous links (e.g. fims NL25 Pilgrimage) contain information about draws and semibluffing. Betting draws Feeling lost playing flush draws OOP might be standard or not (draw nl200) (MSNL Big Jim's thoughts) Painfully Common Spot: Stealing Pots Theory of Poker (TOP) chapter 11 & 12 concern semibluffs 3. You can lay down AA/KK unimproved the so-called Baluga Theorem the AA rule (discussion of not laying down AA/KK UI) 4. You're attacking the blinds in easy steal situations Pooh-Bah Redux: Blind Stealing Taking stealing the blinds to next level( technically not an easy steal) 5. You have 1200+ doubloons I'll repeat what I said in Part 1 here. I believe he meant start taking shots at NL100 when you have $1200 as the commonly accepted bankroll for your limit is x20 buyins. I'll re-refer you to AJ's " Bankroll and Moving Up " article. Many of the links are in the SSNL Master Sticky and some in the embryonic Essential selection of uNL -if you haven't read it or haven't read it for some time I suggest you do as there's a HUGE amount of good stuff in there. I have no doubt my searches missed some good posts and some of these I've linked may not be optimal but every thread I've presented here I've learnt something important from. Many thanks again to all the posters that contributed to make this compilation possible(kazana too for proofreading) and of course fimbulwinter himself.
