Default Correct re-raise?

28 person live MTT
top 5 payout

blinds 200/400 50 ante.
Hero has 38,000 chips, by far the most in the whole tourney. 24 people left, everyone starts out with 10k in chips, starts with 25/50 blinds. Hero just moved to a new table after his table broke. Hero has a LAGgy image throughout the tournament and is trying to establish the table captain position.

UTG+2 starts with 12k in chips

UTG+2 raises to 2000
Hero (MP) with AQ raises to 7000.
UTG+2 goes all in for 5000 more (12000 total)
Hero calls.
UTG+2 flips over 77

Board: KJ935

UTG wins with pair of sevens.

Would it have been better to just call with the AQ preflop with the option to push with the scary board or make the easy laydown with such a scary board.

Another thing to think about is whether Hero could have even pushed with the scary board in the first place. OR whether the UTG+2 would have been able to call with that kind of board (assuming hero just calls preflop)

OR was the re-reraise pre flop the right play.

yeah i can't stop thinking about this hand
