Default astronomy trip report

i posted here a not very long ago about looking for a telescope, and got some advice to get a pair of binoculars first and get my feet wet. well it was great advice. been looking at orion and the orion nebula every clear night. the orion nebula is awesome. the pleiades is (are?) spectacular as well. i just got in from looking at jupiter and its moons. who the frick would have thought you could see jupiters moons with binocs?(when i first saw them, i assumed thats what they were, but i checked the cartes du ciel chart and it showed them exactly as i was seeing them). saturn is out right now as well.
anybody know any good sights to look out for out there in the sky other than those ive mentioned?
and why cant i find a decent compass in the b&m sporting goods stores?
