80/160 Borgata shady riv action
GREAT 80/160 game at Borgata on Sunday afternoon.
This game featured most pots with 5+ players for multiple bets preflop. The main opponent in this hand is Larry for those who might know. He is a weekend regular who only plays to have a good time. He is the loud, demanding, talkative type that is friendly with many people in the casino and is a complete donator. He often checks down hands after the flop if its heads up between him and a player he is friends with. I haven't played many hands because of all the raising and because I haven't gotten much to work with. This hand, I am dealt 8c 5c in the cutoff and there are 4 limpers to me, including Larry in mid position. I limp along, button folds, terrible SB calls and BB checks. Flop comes down Ac, 6c, 7s Everyone checks to Larry who bets, I'm next and I call. Terrible SB calls and two EP players call. Turn is the 9h EP1 bets out, EP2 folds, Larry raises, I 3-bet, SB coldcalls and Larry calls. Everyone else folds. River is 6s. It's checked to me, I bet and SB folds. Now, Larry turns his cards over showing 86 and makes a little forward gesture with his hand and says "trip 6's". I am confused by this and I just turn my cards over as well and show the straight. He sits there and doesn't really do anything and I ask, "didn't you call?" and he goes on and on, "no, i wasn't calling - I knew you had the straight I only called the turn for the 10..." etc etc. He is clearly trying to defend his little river trick when I am 190% sure that he would have called on the river. Obviously, I should not have shown my cards and waited until he declared that he was calling or folding. But, at this point, do you make a big deal out of this at all? I think technically, he doesn't have to give me the $160 since he didn't call but how should I respond to this given the type of player he is? If it matters, I probably make a trip to the Borgata less than once a month (I always play in the 80 game or higher). I have played with him before but I don't think he knows who I am at all. Some of the other regulars in the game do know me. Also, I was scheduled to go back home to New York around an hour or so after this hand. I think the play of the hand is pretty straightforward; I was mainly interested in how yall think I should have handled this little river robbery. Thanks |
