My first bad beat post
Never posted in this forum before, although after 300,000 hands I am more than a little conversnat in the ways of variance but this messed with my head.
Thursday I finally move up to 200NL after 'testing the waters' for a few months. Lost 2 and half buyins but played fine so was happy. Then played again off peak and made a little money so was happy again. I take notes everytime I play a marginal hand hard based on a read that the villain is weak. This is a safety measure I have to insure I am making good reads and not just playing badly. So in one 9-10 hour session I had a note of 14 times where I had AA,KK or AK and flopped an overpair or TPTK. Each time I was confident I was ahead on the flop and either pushed when bet into or pushed when reraised (this is not a standard line for me, but against bad donks ) on 11 occasions I had the best hand either overpair vs top pair, or TPTK vs TPWK or even 2nd pair (where do these guys come from?) on 3 occasions I was up against either a flush or str8 draw (no big draws, 8 or 9 outs max) My equity was anywhere from 80-90% on 11 hands and I lost 11 times to either a turned or rivered set if they had the smaller overpair or two pair when they had the weak pair. I lost to all three draws too. On just the 11 where I was a big favourite I put in $1800. On the other three I lost $500. Only last week that was enough to bankroll me completely when I ws playing at 100NL. Sick thing is I only lost $1000 over the whole session given other hands. Given average luck I would have had my best ever day in terms of money won. Given normal bad luck I would have made a decent win. Given my luck I had my worst ever single session in terms of money lost. Poker really is the nearest thing to hell on earth. I think i need to develop a drinking problem. |
