This is probably a requirement to help them prevent money laundering. As the industry becomes more and more legitimate, this is probably something that we'll see more of. Since you don't have to actually verify anything when setting up your player account at AP, they're probably just trying to get a little "know your customer" action on the money movements out.

But you're right about the shoddy service in this exchange. They definitely need to improve the way their handling their new policy, or it's going to cost them in the long run.
