Psychology of Poker
This might seem a weird question to ask but here goes nothing.
I'm trying to put together a pen and paper test to gauge people's poker skill levels for a small, local tournament. I know this is not the way things are usually done but there are reasons for it I don't care to go into. Thing is, the structure of the questions was already decided for me. The questions would be divided in 3 categories. 1. Basic Poker: Gameflow/Blinds Moves Hand Ranks Opening Hand Strengths 2. Poker Math: Pot odds Outs Pot odds/Outs Compairisons Value Bets 3. Poker Psychology: Opponent Profiling Reading Opponent's Hands Reasons to Call/Raise Heads-Up Poker I'm in the process of penning out the questions now but I'm stuck on the Poker Psychology topics. Are there better sub-topics I should be chosing? If so which? If not then what kind of questions can I ask? I'm not a pro at this and I usually consider myself resourceful but I keep hitting a wall trying to find these questions on my own and would really appreciate some advice. Thank you in advance! Sam |

Re: Psychology of Poker
Sam...When I first saw this thread, I thought the title referred to the book 'The Psychology of Poker' by Alan Schoonmaker.
That would be a good source for forming questions. One that I think would be perfect for your survey is 'Why do you play poker?' (pp. 32-38). |

You could get plenty of questions right out of the text. |
